Time to Make a Decision

In base on a basic investigation about the three different options to research we decided to make it in the field of 3D vision with stereoscopic cameras. This decision was made because our team is intended to make the 3D vision research obligatorily soon because Robocup(1) rules are going to require teams to have stereoscopic vision in a couple years or sooner and we do not have any research on the area yet. Also almost any team on the Robocup leage have made an investigation in this area yet. This makes the investigation even more interesting.

Among the various things that were investigated I looked specialy for doctoral thesis and research on each area. Many of them where from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional. Also I looked for the research papers and reports from the Robocup Champions of the last years and the teams that achieved the first 4 places.

Now the next step is about studying the basic concepts of stereovision, quote different stereocámeras, understand how to make one by my own, search for research on the area made specially by other universities or non profit organizations and to look for bibliography and publications that may be useful as support.

Some of the most interesting documents i found about stereo vision are these:

-Visión Estereoscópica V3D. Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2009).
Investigators:
Conrado Javier García Montiel et. al.

-Visión Estereoscópica. Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. (2008)
Investigator:
Dr. Gonzalo Pajares Martinsanz

Cámara Estereoscópica.

(1)Robocup: It is an non profit organization that promotes investigation in robotics makeing an annual international event where many universities may compete on different areas as a soccer game, home service or rescue.
